Morning Ritual: Regulate Your Nervous System for a Balanced Day

Do you ever wake up up on the “wrong side of the bed”?  We’ve all had those times when you feel like you've already been thrown into the chaos of the day before it even begins.  The kicker: how you start your morning can significantly impact the rest of your day.  So, here are some simple yet effective practices you can fold into your morning routine to set the tone for a day filled with balance and harmony.

Choose the right hydration (hint: drink water!)

First things first, hydrate. Your body has just spent hours in a state of rest and rejuvenation, so be gentle with it. Opt for room temperature water instead of shocking your system with icy cold or scalding hot water. Drinking room temp water allows your body to ease into waking without unnecessary stress.

Wakey, wakey, stretch and have a great day!

Give yourself a gentle stretch before you even get out of bed, stretching your limbs to wake your muscles up. This will help improve blood circulation, enhance respiration, and it prepares your body to move for the rest of the day. Let your intuition guide you through stretches that feel good for you.

Of course, breathwork!

Connect with your breath. Mindful breathing techniques can work wonders to calm the nervous system and promote a sense of inner peace. Take a few moments to focus on your breath, allowing it to flow naturally. Even just a few seconds of conscious breathing can shift your body from a state of tension to relaxation, helping you to set the tone for the rest of the day on a calm and peaceful note.

By prioritizing hydration, gentle movement, and mindful breathing, you support your nervous system to create a sense of balance that will carry you through whatever challenges and opportunities lie ahead. So tomorrow morning, wake up on the right side of the bed by nourishing your body, mind, and spirit with this self-nurturing ritual. Your future self will thank you!
